Three Proven Ways to Generate New Business

You can have the best product or service in the world. You can produce the perfect sales letter that could sell meat to a vegetarian. But if you fail to get any prospects to read your offer, you won’t achieve sales.

That’s why marketing is so crucial, and why as marketers we need to put so much time and effort into getting our offers in front of targeted leads. Establishing exactly which marketing methods work best makes this whole process pretty straight forward and much less complicated than you might think.

Here are three proven tactics that can quickly be implemented

#1: Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing is in its infancy and it’s set to explode in the coming years! Those who take the time now to set up their social marketing campaigns are the ones who will gain the greatest reward.

Social media marketing is all about building relationships with others and building networks or lists of relevant contacts. Building a good reputation in your niche and establishing yourself as an expert, will enable you to fully leverage your reputation as Social media marketing starts to experience rapid growth.

So where do you start? Well why not start with some of the biggest social media sites, including:

* Web 2.0 content sites, like Squidoo.com which allow you to create one-page websites around niche topics. Google tends to love this kind of site and crawls their pages often.

* Social networking sites like Facebook.com where you can focus on finding or creating niche-specific groups. You might also want to look for niche-specific networking sites.

* Social bookmarking sites, like Digg.com allow users to share content. They can be used as a great tool in your viral marketing campaigns.

#2: Search Engine Marketing

There are two main ways to generate targeted traffic from the search engines. Traffic is the common term used for visitors to a website and is a crucial element of online marketing.

* By ranking well for certain keywords and therefor showing up well in the organic search engine results.

* By using methods such as pay per click marketing in order to appear in the search engine’s sponsored results (for example, Google AdWords).

Both of these tactics should be included in your marketing toolkit. That’s because once you get your pages indexed, organic search engine results can provide traffic for months (and even years). On the flip side, pay per click marketing allows you to get highly targeted traffic very quickly but can become expensive unless you are skilled at doing it correctly.

#3: Buying Ads

Placing targeted ads is yet another way to get your offers in front of eager prospects. You can do this using both online and offline methods, including:

* Purchasing banner and text ads on highly targeted niche sites.

* Using solo ads in highly targeted niche ezines.

* Buying blog ads.

* Buying ads in offline publications, including niche magazines and the related topics of daily newspapers.

This isn’t so much a case of choosing which method is right for you or choosing the one tactic that provides the best results. All three of these tactics are proven, time-tested marketing methods. They can all be used together as part of your overall marketing strategy.

While powerful, these three main advertising methods are just the tip of the marketing iceberg. When you unleash them alongside other equally powerful marketing methods, you’ll create an endless flow of qualified leads. Great News About The Recession

Great News

The first thing to mention is that in no way does the title of this post intend to play down the serious financial difficulties being experienced all around the world. But the current economic climate does open a large window of opportunity for anyone who is motivated enough to try and increase their income, start their own business or take measures to improve their existing business.

The Current Economic Climate

Terms like thriving business, job security and economic growth are being used less often in recent months. But while there are plenty of worrying stories about banks collapsing and large established chain stores disappearing overnight, there are also plenty of stories about success, achievements and people who triumph against all odds.

For many people times are hard and so they look to improve their income, or find ways of reducing their outgoings. At the same time businesses are having to become more competitive and new opportunities arise for small companies and individuals to make their mark in the world of business.

Common Entrepreneurial Traits

Historically more millionaires are created during periods of economic difficulty than at any other time. This is no coincidense, entrepreneurs use problems to gain knowledge and wisdom. We can’t avoid encountering problems in life, but how we react to them has a big bearing on how they effect us. Think of any successful person that you know and then ask yourself if they experience problems.

One of the keys to achieving more out of life is to develop the right mindset. Entrepreneurs and successful people all have this ability and right now many entrepreneurs will be busy planning ways to cash in on the recession by finding and developing new solutions to current problems.

So now is a great time to start exercising your entrepreneurial flair! Perhaps you have a viable solution for a current problem, or have an area of expertize that might now be in popular demand. If you are keen to rise above the effects of the credit crunch but feel in need of inspiration, have a look at my Inspirational Guide To Web Business Ideas.

Reasons To Be Cheerful

The internet and the falling costs of being able to set up a website and quickly reach a large worldwide audience, means that many of the constraints that have inhibited some people from taking action have now been removed. The largest obstacles remaining are much more likely to be things like procrastination, self doubt or lack of ambition. Overcoming these obstacles isn’t always easy, we can all be resistant to change at times because there’s a certain amount of comfort that comes with doing the things that we are used to.

Ultimately the answer to achieving more lies in developing the right mindset and making a conscious decision take positive action. If you already have your own business idea, or your own business, and want to find out how to develop the kind of mindset used by most successful entrepreneurs, have a look at the Success Upgrade.

The Lifestyle Design of Two Pro-Bloggers

Tim Ferriss is the author of the bestseller The 4-Hour Work Week. I confess to being a regular visitor to his blog and find much of his writing inspirational.

If you would benefit from becoming more productive read his post The Practicality of Pessimism: Stoicism as a Productivity System. It features a 5 minute presentation in which he discusses what he considers to be the two most effective productivity techniques that he’s found since 2004. Considering the amount of success he’s achieved, it’s well worth considering the question he raises about whether defining your fears could be more important than defining your goals.

His blog provides plenty of motivational material which all falls under the umbrella of his aptly named ‘Experiments in Lifestyle Designs’. Instead of finding a niche to work in Tim has managed to create his own and when you watch his videos or read his writing you can see why!

David Risley who I referred to earlier in my post about Self Promotion Enthusiasts, is another good writer who likes to ‘tell it how it is’. His blog talks about his passions and lifestyle design through the use of the Internet. This lifestyle design thing is pretty big hey! Even though he says so himself, David does seem to have a great balance of knowledge in marketing, blogging and using social media.

Both Tim Ferriss and David Risley provide plenty of food for thought for anyone keen to shape their lifestyle design. They use the incredible power of the internet to convey their approach to online marketing and thoughts about life.

Self Promotion Enthusiasts

You know The Kind of Person

One of the things that I personally find annoying in the world of online marketing is the large number of people who seem to focus on shouting continuously about their own products, services or get-rich-quick schemes without ever offering any real value to their victims (readers).

There’s nothing wrong with promoting your own products or with a measured amount of self promotion, but people who try to reach the masses and do nothing but harp on about their latest ‘good thing’, tend to send me running in the opposite direction.

On The Other Hand

In contrast to these self promotion enthusiasts, people who provide good value by offering helpful information, or people who show an interest in trying to help solve other peoples problems tend to draw me towards them like a magnet.

When I find someone who provides great content about a subject that interests me, or information that helps me to overcome a hurdle, I feel inclined to try and find what they have to offer and often catch my credit card starting to sneek out of my pocket.

Getting Rid of The Dead Wood

I was inspired to weed out some of the people who over practise the art of self promotion by David Risley who has a very cool blog. I’ve had great pleasure in deleting contacts on the various networks. You know the kind of people, those who just about stop short of spamming.

I’ve also started a little experiment where I send a message to these self promoting enthusiasts expressing an interest in their product, service or opportunity. Then record how long it takes them to get back to me. Many of them are so busy promoting that I don’t think they notice my buying signals and fail to respond. Most of the others just send another message full of sales copy, HOW INVITING!

Inspirational Guide To Web Business Ideas

I Have A Dream

So, you have been thinking about it for some time. You have decided that a web-based business would be an ideal way of working and, if you could just find out where to go for information about web business ideas, you could select one you like the look of, read up on the subject and get your web business idea up and running in no time at all.

Perhaps you have a vague idea of the type of web business ideas you think would succeed. You probably imagine it would have to be totally original- a product or service never before offered, an entrepreneurial gem which would shine out brilliantly via the world wide web attracting thousands of customers and making you rich in the process!

But hold on a moment- just look back over how you have spent your own money during the past few months. What you have bought for your home, the clothes and food you have chosen, the entertainment you have enjoyed and the leisure activities you have pursued. You might have subscribed to a website designed for people with your particular interest or concern.

These have all involved somebody’s business idea, and the chances are these days, that your choices of products or services have been available on-line. They come to you via other people’s web business ideas! And are they unique or obscure? Not at all. They are products, services or information which you wanted and which the people with the web business idea were able to provide. Quite a simple concept, really, and one you can replicate in a highly profitable way!

Let’s now look at how you might be able to turn your germ of an idea into a web business of viral proportions!

The Big Idea

Unless you already have a web business idea that you believe will capture every other internet browser and result in some kind of a gain for you, your first task is to take a long hard look at your interests, hobbies and life-style choices. You might like to use the following framework to help you to identify some possible web business ideas:

a) Art & design
b) Alternative medicine/therapies
c) Beauty
d) Conservation/ ‘green’ issues
e) Consumer issues
f) Entertainment
g) Education
h) Employment
i) Exercise
j) Faith & culture
k) Family & relationships
l) Fashion interests
m) Food
n) Gardening/self-sufficiency
o) Health issues
p) Housing
q) Life-style preferences
r) Long-term illness or disability
s) Money
t) Music
u) Personal book choices/favourite magazines
v) Pets
w) Skills
x) Sport
y) Travel & transport
z) Using the internet

These topics will probably spark off a few possible web business ideas. Obviously this list is not exhaustive and many of the areas can be sub-divided, but the subject headings reflect products, services and experiences which are common to most people and therefore have the potential for stimulating related web business ideas.

The Method

There are several critical stages in the creation of your web business idea:

1) Decide on the product, service or interest based on your own knowledge
2) Identify your likely consumer/target market
3) Thoroughly research the web business idea (product knowledge, viable pricing etc.)
4) Present the product in an attractive way by having a well designed website
5) Establish efficient, reliable business practice
6) Deliver! (and it’s always good to give a little more than you promise!)
7) Encourage feedback about the presentation of your web business idea

Your Shop Window

Take a little time out to study your own consumer habits, both on-line and in the shopping-mall. Try to identify what attracts you, what entices you in to look around further and what persuades you to commit to buy! These are all considerations which must be taken into account when you submit your web business idea to the net.

We are all attracted by certain stimuli as we scan our surroundings. Colour, form and texture are three of the more obvious things which catch our attention as we look around us. Sound and smell can also be potent signals. Another more subtle aspect is ‘familiarity’ or ‘identification’. For example, certain stores have a special appeal to young people. Other places might be designed to attract the affluent sector. A building or place of entertainment might have a deliberately ‘aggressive’ or competitive ambiance, (such as a sports shop or a concert venue) while another would encourage feelings of well-being and calm, (as in a spa or therapy centre.) These are important and intentional enticements which are designed to attract and hold the attention of individuals, and exactly the same principle applies when you are thinking about your web business idea. It must have a well-defined appeal to your target audience.

When designing your website, remember that it is your ‘shop window’. People will only stop at your sight if it has certain qualities. Make it attractive, suitably colourful and dynamic. Make it very clear what you have on offer initially, and then encourage further exploration by hinting at further ‘goodies’ in store! Don’t make the window too busy or confusing and avoid irritating gimmicks. Keep the whole thing crisp and concise, but provide easy to follow links to further information and an easy route to purchase or participation.

Remember that most businesses have ‘loss leaders’, a useful tool which can attract casual traffic.

Let your enthusiasm shine through! It will transmit itself to visitors looking at your web business and, if you have researched your product, whatever it is, you will engage with people and earn their respect.

Don’t be afraid of criticism- learn from it instead. Invite it from trusted friends and family and see it as constructive.

Believe, wholeheartedly, in your web business idea and your ‘customers’ will go with you. Whether you are aiming to sell physical product or an idea, or providing much searched for advice, keep focused.

Finally

Have the courage of your convictions!

Don’t keep that ‘good idea’ to yourself!

Don’t sell yourself short- don’t assume that just because you have a real flair for promoting a product or enthusing others with a new approach to an idea, it isn’t worth pursuing; It almost certainly is!

BE BOLD!!

No web search strategies are perfect, but this one should provide you with a good starting point. Basically the more specific you can be with the search terms that you use, the more quickly you will find solutions to your queries.

In theory, once you’ve got the results of your search in front of you, the first page of should give you the most relevant information. A large number of the sites that you visit will also have their own search bar which can be used in the same way to find the information you need.

The next video provided by Google offers more useful information about search queries and should help to reasure anyone who worries about their privacy when they surf online.

Global Domains International-GDI

If you’re thinking of starting a web based business, at some point you will need to invest in a domain name. You could do a lot worse than to look at Global Domains International who offer free domains in conjunction with their web hosting. I use several providers for the various Domain names that I own and most of them have affiliate programs but can’t see any that match the income potential that GDI offers.

The co-founders of Global Domains international, Michael Reed and Alan Ezeir boast an impressive track record in business and have a wealth of experience when it comes to entrepreneurial/start-up environments. GDI not only provide some excellent services, but also include a built in work at home opportunity too!

Perhaps the most attractive part of the GDI package is that you can get started at no cost. Yes, absolutely FREE! Their 7 day free trial provides you with a choice of ready made website templates, a website builder in case you prefer to build your own site, a domain name of your choice, web hosting and a whole host of additional services such as personalised email addresses.

After the initial 7 day trial period you can continue to use this remarkable package for just $10 per month. Even without the business opportunity this has to be considered great value. Global Domains International is a Inc500 listed company and currently maintains customers with annual renewals and web services in more than 180 countries.

The domain industry is exploding and experts in the industry forecast that over 500 Million domains will be active annually within the next ten years. The fact that using dot com domain names has become less significant in the marketplace and the lack of any real competition for Global Domains Internationals use of network marketing to increase their market share, means that this is a fantastic opportunity.

There is a generous reward plan in place and no selling involved. If $10 per month is within your budget, Global Domains International can offer a complete home business opportunity for providing you with services that are essential for just about any online business you might start anyway.

I know that not many people will want to take my word for it so why not pay a visit to the Global Domains International website and have a look at the long list of testimonials that highlight some exciting success stories. Let me know how you get on.

Starting A Web Based Business

Starting A Web Based BusinessRegardless of your technical background, starting a web based business can be achieved much more easily than you might think. You can use the major search engines like Google and Yahoo to find reliable services, they provide some great research tools that can make life a lot easier.

Every aspiring internet marketer should be aware of the basic truths about starting a web based business. Each one will be subject to these facts, including those high-profile individuals who have already succeeded in earning millions of dollars.

Starting A Web Business Doesn’t Have To Be Expensive

The recent credit crunch means that more people than ever are searching for a way to increase their income. Starting a web based business doesn’t have to be expensive which is great news if you’re working with a small budget.

One cost effective way of starting a small business online is to find an established company that provides most of the tools and resources you’ll need under one roof. As well as being cost effective this can also help to save time.

If you’re looking for a good starting point, have a look at this free guide which outlines the ten basics to starting a web based business. You could also have a look at my earlier post about the benefits of finding a good internet training course, planning and preparation can make a big difference to the results that you achieve.

Effective Promotion and Advertising Strategies

In order to create a successful client-base who will ’sing the praises’ of your product or service you will need to grasp the essentials of promoting and advertising within the internet marketing industry. Effective promotion and advertising strategies are primary ‘tools of the trade’

You need to make your website dynamic and tempting so that people will want to re-visit. There’s plenty of choice when it comes to finding the right platform to use. Most good platforms provide detailed instructional video tutorials, so you don’t need to have advanced computer skills to build your site.

You will need to create interest, intrigue and a willingness to try what you have to offer. In short, you need to attract well targeted traffic, people who feel motivated and keen to purchase from your company when they visit your blog or your website.

Personal Development

Starting a web based business can be the beginning of an exciting journey that can be made much more enjoyable and rewarding by devoting some proportion of your time to personal development. You might find some of these free personal development resources helpful.

The world famous book ‘Think and Grow Rich’ has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide and been responsible for helping to create more millionaires than any other philosophy of achievement. If you haven’t already read it, it’s now been produced in high quality MP3 audio.

If you’re excited by the thought of starting a web based business and have the drive and enthusiasm to succeed, the chances are that you will be rewarded for your effort which isn’t always the case when you work for an employer.

What Are Web 2.0 Websites?

There’s always plenty of debate about exactly what web 2.0 really means and if you’ve spent time exploring web based opportunities it’s a term that you’ve
probably heard.

So What Are Web 2.0 Websites?

They are basically websites that use a collection of practices and principles that together make up the effective new approach to using the internet. It’s a
refreshing and dynamic approach that is much more interactive than past methods.

Giving an accurate definition of exactly what web 2.0 is, and how web 2.0 websites operate can be difficult. Tim O’Reilly, who is closely linked to the term web 2.0 because of the O’Reilly Media Web 2.0 conference in 2004, gives his answer to the question ‘what is web 2.0′ in the video below.

Tim O’Reilly on What is Web 2.0?

Whether you are a budding entrepreneur or small business owner, you can enjoy huge benefits by adopting the new technology trends that web 2.0 websites use.

Web 2.0 initiatives are being employed within the public sector to help facilitate direct interaction between high government authorities. Universities are using web 2.0 websites to connect with prospective students and it’s now used with increasingly good effect by some presidential candidates in election campaigns.

These kind of initiatives are something that business owners should definitely try to incorporate into their business model. The video below which shows the concept of Oikos Community Console, highlights one of the main differences between web 1.0 and web 2.0 websites.

Web 1.0 vs Web 2.0

You can find out more valuable information about web 2.0 websites at http://tim.oreilly.com/including Tim O’Reilly answering the question what is web 2.0
